I meant to post about my daughter and my experience with Duke’s Healthy Lifestyle program yesterday, but it was a busy day around here. The intensive program is designed to help overweight children and their families. We are assigned a pediatrician, nutritionist, physical therapist, and working jointly with a psychologist. For the next 6 months we will meet once a month to talk with a specialist (although I kind of wish it was a little more often), be weighed (even I have to be weighed to show my dedication to her), talk about our physical activities, and discuss what we’ve been eating.
We met with the pediatrician in charge of the program and the nutritionist who talked to the kids and I about healthy eating habits. At the end of our visit, Ladybug had to write down a goal and her action plan for the month. For our next visit she plans to talk to me about meal planning on a budget and see if Ladybug met her monthly health goal. She’s decided to work on eating healthier and not “sneak eating”.
