Girls and a Healthy Body Image

To have a balanced life it is important for one to have a healthy body image. This is very important especially for teenage girls. If they have a negative or unrelatistic impression of their own body image if would affect them well into their adulthood.

Flipping through the magazine one is bombarded with all so perfect looking models wearing the latest branded clothes. One can’t help having a tinge of envy seeing such a picture. I’m sure many girls will be admiring their stylish clothes and “pefectly air-brushed” bodies fantasizing that they too had such bodies.

It is horrendous that these magazines are capitalising on these naive girl’s fantasy that to be beautiful you need to be super thin and be of the ideal body size and shape. Once a girl gets the wrong idea of her body, she may end up starving to the extent of becoming bulimic or gravely underweight as she strives to be waif-life as the models in the magazine. In the worst case scenario these girls may unknowingly cause their organs in their bodies to start malfunctioning due to the severe lack of proper nutrition because of their vanity. How then could this catastrophic event be avoided?

Here are 3 Simple Tips to a Healthy Body Image:

Love thy Body…Only when you love your own body will you take proper care of it. No one will mutilate or violate something which they treasure dearly.

Stop comparing…Comparison leads to dissatisfaction and unhappiness. There will always be people thinner or have a better body shape then you. Eliminate the need to compare and you will be a happier person with less stress.

Engage in positive affirmations…The worst mental torture that you can inflict on yourself is constantly reminding yourself that you are worthless and that your body is the cause of your misery. There may be nasty people around who poke fun by commenting that you have a “ jelly belly” or look like an elephant. These people will continually hurt you with their slurs IF you allow them to get to you. Tell yourself that you are wonderful regardless of your body size and shape; it does wonders to boost and maintain your self confidence.

With these tips I’m sure that you will be able to create a healthy body image for your girls.
