Back in March I picked a Retro French Maid outfit for fun and because it was on the larger than I expected but it was still fun to try on, I figured it would make for a fun costume outside the bedroom (of course for Halloween that is). OK. I’m taking over today’s post. Why? Because it’s book talk time and Deb will tell you right away that I’m the book gal. I am after all the Book Faery at The Book Faery Reviews. My other child for the past 3+ years. I love books. I have books EVERYWHERE in my house. There’s not a room not blessed with a book of some sort. Well…perhaps not the bathrooms. Remember that scene from Seinfeld where George gets called out for taking a book to the bathroom to read?! HILARIOUS! Anyhoo, I don’t leave books there because they’d get mildewy from the showers if they were left in there. People can just bring their book in there. Not leaving them in there. End of story.

OK…I digress. Back to THIS post. Today’s prompt for “30 Days About Me” is to share our favorite books. I love books. I mean I REALLY.LOVE.BOOKS. As a busy mom of three who works full time outside the home, books give me a place to escape to when life gets super crazy. It allows me a time to just unwind and dump all the chaos from my brain. Because while I’m reading, I’m no longer mom, or honey, or even Farrah. I’m Sara, Nancy, Froto, a witch, an old lady, and sometimes even a man or an animal. Before you start motioning to your friends about the coo-coo blogger you just read about who you think has some serious personality issues, well…I just can’t help it when it comes to books. I often find myself so engrossed with the novel that I just become one of the characters. But of course once the book is put down I’m back to my old self. So reading is very therapeutic for me. I even find that books find their way to me at different times in my life for a reason. It’s crazy, it’s magical, and I love it. They comfort me. The words and the pages that I turn (or the swipe across my Nook Color).

Weddings on your calendar this spring and summer?  Not to worry, celebrity stylist, host of the Style Network’s show “How Do I Look?” and Yoplait Light Two Week Tune Up spokesperson, Jeannie Mai, provides her expert advice on how to prep for a wedding this season.

Color and cuts: When it comes to being a guest at a wedding, think about the colors of celebration. Bright jeweled colors of turquoise, royal blue, purples, or even pinks are gorgeous, and create an inviting ambiance towards the family and friends around you. Because weddings can run long, and you’re never sure how long you’ll be standing or sitting, make sure what you’re wearing is comfortable. Fashion forbid you wear anything that’s going to have you fidgeting or adjusting and not focusing on the festivities!

Day vs. Night: Day weddings give you that perfect excuse to wear a fabulous frock. Think breezy, hemlines that end above, at, or below the knee – they can all be appropriate. The only day don’t? Thick lycra or opaque tights. Unless you’re a 9 year old girl hunting for Easter eggs.  Night weddings are definitely a reason to vamp up your look. Dresses can be flirty and fun, but makeup should definitely be enhanced for the lights. Be brave with a bolder lip, play up those eyes with false lashes, dare to go there! A wedding is just another word for a party .

Cooler/ Warmer weather: For cooler weather, think layers. If you’re wearing a dress, it’s essential to have accessory pieces to keep you warm like a cashmere wrap, shawl, capelet, or cardigan. Blazers look great over dresses with the sleeves rolled up, and leather jackets can totally play up a cute frock. For warmer weather, think open toed or strappy sandals to keep your look cool, and definitely wear your hair up. The worst is feeling your hair stick to beads of sweat running down your back. Ick!

Tune Up ahead of time: Everyone wants to look and feel their best before attending a wedding, so think a few weeks ahead to ensure you feel your best on the big day. What Next?

I’m working out in the gym again. I even did 175 crunches the other day and 30 push-ups. Woot Woot!! And boy do I still feel the effects of that workout the other day! But man…it feels great!! I finally bumped myself up to 3.0 incline and 3.5mph for 30minutes. For me, that’s progress. We even bought Just Dance 2 and boy is that fun! Not only is it fun but it’s definitely a workout that will have you sweating in a fun way! Great for the ENTIRE family or for a gathering of friends.

I’m still doing Weight Watchers but I’m more on an “improvised” version of the Points Plus plan. I’m not tracking as strictly but my portion control is definitely under control and I actually enjoy foods more now. Not that I didn’t enjoy food before but I found that I was going over board and feeling horrible psychologically and physically afterward. In the beginning I was using measuring cups, spoons, and plate sizes to help me with portion control. Now I’m happy eating just a serving size of something no matter how yummy and this time I have no guilt. And honestly, I’m learning to recognize when my body is full. Often it’s much sooner than I thought before and I usually have much left over for another meal. Eating salads before my meal has also helped me tremendously with eating healthier portions of foods. This works for me and in the long run what I think will work best. I’m definitely eating more fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. And happily my family is following suit.
