Day 2 Challenge: Do not bicker with your spouse/partner about anything in front of the kids…no matter what.

Well I suppose I got out of another day of not REALLY having to do a challenge. After a couple of days being “snowed in” with the 3 kids and my husband, I went back into the office to work today. As much as I like the ease of working from home, I’m realizing that I actually like to be in the office most days so I can “getaway” from home for a bit to just be Farrah. So, I went to the office today, I honestly didn’t have too much interaction with my spouse today. When we did speak on the phone during the day I’d say it was fairly pleasant and neither of us felt the need to bicker with the other. And now? He’s working a side job while the kids and I get ready for bed and complete nightly tasks. By the time he does get home, they will all hopefully be asleep and still, I doubt I will have anything still to bicker about. While he awaits electrical side jobs and more work from his company, he’s been home most days relaxing and cleaning house while I’m working. What’s there really to complain about? ;-) Well…he COULD make dinner…

Resourceful Mommy started the “30 Days of Change” challenge today. Since I’m always looking for ways I can personally improve (and give me a reason to be more consistent around here), I thought, what the heck, why not try the challenge?

How the Challenge Works
Each day for 30 days (not necessarily consecutive) I will suggest a challenge for the following day. Try it and stick with it for the entire day. Did you see a change? How about after all 30 Days of Change? My hope is that we can change one very simple thing each day and the overall affect is general improvement in our lives, especially in the focus area of each challenge.

Parenting Challenge – Day One
Throughout the entire day tomorrow, say the word “no” to your children as infrequently as possible.

This challenge does not require that you allow them to do things that are unsafe or break major rules in your home. It asks two things of you as a parent. First, as parents our knee-jerk response is no instead of yes. How many times in a day do you say no when yes would have been just fine and your child would have been much happier? So it’s fifteen minutes until dinner and he wants to get out the Play-Doh. Would you all be happier if you have a bit more clean-up before setting the table, but he hears a yes instead of one more no in his day filled with boundaries? The other part of this challenge asks that you take a look at your word choice. Rather than shutting down your child with a no, can you offer a positive redirect as an alternative?

How is it going for me? Well…all I can say is luckily my husband had to do all the “No’s” today! LOL Normally, I’m the one but to make it easier for me, I just said…”I’m working right now so go talk to your dad.” I know, I know…perhaps I’ll do better with tomorrow’s challenge. I hope…
