I live by many quotes. I have quotes near my desks, in notebooks, in my purse, sometimes marked in books, and I love leaving quotes behind that I find for others.

Here are some of our favorite quotes in life:

And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years. (Abraham Lincoln)

If you get up one more time than you fall down, you will make it through. (Chinese Proverb)

Sisters function as safety nets in a chaotic world simply by being there for each other. (Carol Saline)

Needed: A strong, deep person wise enough to allow me to grieve in the depth of who I am, and strong enough to hear my pain without turning away. … I need someone who believes that the sun will rise again, but who does not fear my darkness. (Fr. Joe Mahoney)

When choosing a name for your baby, go to the back door and shout it out a few times. (Unknown)

When you live your life with an appreciation of coincidences and their meanings, you connect with the underlying field of infinite possibilities. (William James)

Once you say you’re going to settle for second, that’s what happens to you in life. (John F. Kennedy)

You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching, Love like you’ll never be hurt, Sing like there’s nobody listening, And live like it’s heaven on earth. (William W. Purkey)

OK. I’m taking over today’s post. Why? Because it’s book talk time and Deb will tell you right away that I’m the book gal. I am after all the Book Faery at The Book Faery Reviews. My other child for the past 3+ years. I love books. I have books EVERYWHERE in my house. There’s not a room not blessed with a book of some sort. Well…perhaps not the bathrooms. Remember that scene from Seinfeld where George gets called out for taking a book to the bathroom to read?! HILARIOUS! Anyhoo, I don’t leave books there because they’d get mildewy from the showers if they were left in there. People can just bring their book in there. Not leaving them in there. End of story.

OK…I digress. Back to THIS post. Today’s prompt for “30 Days About Me” is to share our favorite books. I love books. I mean I REALLY.LOVE.BOOKS. As a busy mom of three who works full time outside the home, books give me a place to escape to when life gets super crazy. It allows me a time to just unwind and dump all the chaos from my brain. Because while I’m reading, I’m no longer mom, or honey, or even Farrah. I’m Sara, Nancy, Froto, a witch, an old lady, and sometimes even a man or an animal. Before you start motioning to your friends about the coo-coo blogger you just read about who you think has some serious personality issues, well…I just can’t help it when it comes to books. I often find myself so engrossed with the novel that I just become one of the characters. But of course once the book is put down I’m back to my old self. So reading is very therapeutic for me. I even find that books find their way to me at different times in my life for a reason. It’s crazy, it’s magical, and I love it. They comfort me. The words and the pages that I turn (or the swipe across my Nook Color).

So today, here are my favorite books over the years (and yes, I have many still on my shelves today)…

Cat In The Hat by Dr. Seuss

Saturday mornings were a major TV day in our household. Today’s Saturday mornings just don’t match those from yesterday. I remember making sure we woke in time to watch from beginning until the last show which may have been Soul Train. We’d wake early, grab a bowl of cereal, and watch the boob tube with dad all morning long in our pjs. Good memories, good memories indeed.

Hope you enjoy the clip as much as we did while watching it and reciting all the theme songs…

Songs have always been a major part of my life as well as my sister’s. Our dad was in a band as a teen and infused the love of music throughout the house. I personally grew up with piano and voice lessons since I was 5. “Recording” music on my own as a kid and even have plans to record an album of songs I sang to my children when they were babies. Something they can hold onto of me. Like my dad’s love of music, I share that love with my children. We even have the drums, piano, and guitar for them so they can express the inner musician in them. Shoot, I want to play the guitar and drums too! Can we say GARAGE BAND?! Heck yeah!

Anyhoo…today’s “30 Days of Me” is about our favorite song. While I don’t really have ONE favorite, I’ll list the songs that have meaning to me:

Friday I’m In Love by The Cure - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song! It’s my husband and my favorite song from when we were in high school and it STILL makes me smile when it comes on.

Whiter Shade of Pale by Procal Harum - When I was younger, my dad made me practice this song OVER and OVER and OVER on the piano because it was his favorite song. When he passed away when I was 15, an old sport car with it’s top down was playing it as we were walking out of the church after his memorial service.

Itsy Bitsy Spider – Carly Simon version -I remember Carly since my dad loved her growing up. This particular song version I used to sing to my own children when they were little before bed. Ahh the memories. And today I dropped of LittleOne (#3) to her 1st day of school while her older sister (#1) started middle school earlier this month.

- Farrah

What about you? Do you have a favorite song or multiple songs with a special meaning to you?

Question: What motivates you to get going and what keeps you going?

My kids are a big motivating factor because I want to have more energy to play with them and want to be around as long as possible to enjoy their big moments in life. I have to be a role model to them. If they see me being lazy watching the boob tube all day long, how can I expect them to get out there and get active? If I’m shoving grease and fat down my throat all day long, how can I chastise them about the importance of eating healthier so they don’t become obese and struggle with health problems?

My clothes and the mirror are another motivating factor. When I can see a change happening in my body that is good, I want to keep going to keep it that way or get it better. When the change is going south (figuratively too), I’m more motivated to get moving more again. I’ll be honest, I could care less about the scale as long as my clothes fit better on me and I feel confident walking around in my own skin. And truthfully, being confident in your own skin is way sexy for you and your other.

Past week’s healthy lifestyle update…Well, I hate to say it but I’ve been bad. I’ve slidden down the unhealthy and inactive path this past week. I could blame it on not being well this week but truthfully I could have at least walked on the treadmill a couple times during the week. And eating? Well…I’ve been lazy in the cooking department. Things will be better this week though. I’m feeling better and I’m meal planning today. In fact in a few I’m heading to the gym for some much needed sweating to occur before I indulge in my book addiction at Barnes & Noble. LittleOne is in fact poking me now telling me to hurry up so we can go to the gym and she can play with her friends there. So off I go!

Just because we have a bad week doesn’t mean it has to end…today’s a new day!

OK so I’ve been missing in action from http://farrah.tbfreviews.net.

I’ll just blame it on a major brain fart that expelled pure NOTHING.

MAJOR BRAIN FART…

If you haven’t already noticed, things look quite different around here and the blog name’s changed. I was going through withdrawals of being able to just say whatever I wanted to say. I have been busy at my other blog (The Book Faery Reviews) but that’s restricted to books, authors, and reading of course. So I needed to fix that.

MAJOR WITHDRAWALS…

Originally I created this site focusing on health/exercise tips and my personal journey with my daughter towards being healthier and happier. And while I still have much to talk about on those topics, I needed a place to just be me where I could just ramble about whatever was on my mind.

So here we are now…Welcome back to: “Farrah’s Little Place in the Blogosphere”. A place where I can just post whatever I feel like!

Now you might find posts about:
